How King Price claims work: what R10 million a day actually looks like

King Price paid 5,395 claims in a single month, every one assessed, approved and settled. That is what an average of R10 million a day in payouts looks like up close, according to King Price’s June 2026 figures. This article shows you exactly how King Price claims work, how fast they settle, why some claims get rejected, and what those numbers mean for you when it is your turn to claim.

Quick answer

  • King Price pays an average of R10 million in claims a day, according to its June 2026 figures.
  • In one recent month King Price settled 5,395 claims: 2,301 car accidents, 1,776 windscreens, 83 hijackings, 48 home break-ins and 40 hail-damage claims.
  • You can log a claim by app, WhatsApp on 0860 50 50 50, the self-service portal, or a phone call.
  • The top 5 reasons a claim does not pay: late reporting, unpaid premium, a non-working tracker, no forced entry and under-insurance. All five are avoidable.
  • King Price has a 4% overturn ratio with the National Financial Ombud (NFO), which means it gets claims right 96% of the time, according to its July 2026 stats.

What does “having your back” actually mean?

It means the numbers back the promise. King Price settles thousands of claims every month and publishes the figures, so you are not taking a marketing line on faith. Claims performance is measured in two things that matter to you: how much gets paid, and how fast.

A claim is your formal request for King Price to repair, replace or pay out after an insured event like an accident, theft or storm damage. The strength of an insurer shows in how it handles that moment, not in the brochure.

“Our job is simple. When something goes wrong, we make it right, quickly and without drama. The volume we settle every month is the proof, not the promise.”

We paid 5,395 claims last month. Here is what for.

In one recent month, King Price assessed, approved and settled 5,395 claims. Here is the breakdown:

Claim typeNumber settled
Car accidents2,301

Hijackings83
Home break-ins48

Every single one followed the same path: logged, assessed, approved, settled. No claim is too small to matter and none is left in limbo. This is what R10 million a day looks like when you zoom in on the real events behind the rand figure. If you want the cover that sits behind those car numbers, here is what King Price car insurance covers.

What does R10 million a day actually look like?

R10 million a day sounds enormous, because it is. Broken down into daily averages, here is roughly what that buys, based on King Price’s claims mix:

  • Around 118 cars repaired or replaced
  • Around 77 windscreens fixed
  • Around 30 home contents and buildings claims settled
  • Around 234 households back on their feet

Every single day. The figure is not an abstraction. It is families driving again, windscreens cleared, and homes put right. According to King Price’s June 2026 figures, monthly payouts have ranged from R118,289,346 in November 2025 to R148,018,982 in December 2025, with R143,712,456 paid in June 2026.

How to claim with King Price, start to finish

Three steps. No paperwork maze, no waiting for a letter that never arrives.

  1. Log your claim. Use the King Price app, WhatsApp 0860 50 50 50, the self-service portal at ssp.kingprice.co.za, or call 0860 50 50 50 (press 9 for an emergency). Report the incident within 30 days of it happening, even if you are not sure you will claim.
  2. We assess. King Price contacts you directly. There is no transfer carousel and no chasing reference numbers across departments.
  3. Settled. Your claim is paid, repaired or replaced, depending on what suits the situation.

One rule sits above all the steps: if your car or motorbike needs towing, call 0860 50 50 50 before it is towed. Use a random tow truck and you could be personally liable for the towing and storage bill. The same number connects you to emergency roadside, home and medical assist if you need a hand on the side of the road. For a closer look at the mechanics, here is the full claims process step by step.

“We built the claims journey around one idea: you should never have to fight your own insurer to get what you are owed. Log it, we assess it, we settle it.”

Top 5 reasons a claim does not pay out (and how to avoid each one)

King Price wants to pay your claim. The fastest way to make sure it can is to avoid the five issues that sink the most claims. Each one is preventable, and each one comes straight from the policy conditions you agree to at sign-up. If you have ever wondered why a friend’s claim was rejected, it almost always traces back to one of these five.

ReasonWhat goes wrongHow to avoid it
1. Late reportingThe incident is reported more than 30 days after it happenedReport within 30 days, even “just in case” incidents
2. Unpaid premiumThe premium was not paid for the period the incident occurredKeep your debit order funded and your cover active
3. Tracker not workingA required tracker was not installed or working at the time of a theft or hijackingInstall the tracker as a condition of cover and test it regularly
4. No forced entryA home theft claim shows no visible signs of forced entryLock up properly; break-in cover needs evidence of forced entry
5. Under-insuranceContents or buildings insured for less than full replacement valueInsure at full replacement value, not what you paid years ago

1. You reported the claim too late

You have 30 days to report an incident from the day it happens. Miss that window and the claim can be rejected, even if everything else is in order. The rule applies even to incidents you are not sure you will claim for, so report first and decide later.

“We can only act on what we know about. The 30-day window exists so we can investigate while the trail is fresh. Tell us early, every time, even if you are still deciding.”

[Insert name and title, e.g. Quintin Herbst, Claims Manager, King Price Insurance]

2. Your premium was not paid

If the premium for the period of the incident was not paid, there is no active cover for that period, and the claim falls away. This usually comes down to a failed debit order or a lapsed policy. Keep your account funded and your cover live so you are protected on the day you need it.

3. Your tracker was not installed or not working

Where a tracking device is a condition of cover, it must be installed and working to manufacturer specification. If it is not, there is no theft or hijacking cover on that vehicle. With 83 hijackings settled in a single recent month, a working tracker is the difference between a paid claim and a rejected one. Test it regularly and notify your tracking company the moment a theft or hijacking happens. For the full picture on theft claims, here is what happens when your car gets stolen.

4. There were no signs of forced entry

For home contents and buildings theft, King Price needs visible evidence of forced entry. Theft from outbuildings and theft while a property is unoccupied for more than 45 consecutive days both carry strict forced-entry conditions. Remember to inform King Price if the property will be unoccupied for more than 45 consecutive days beforehand. It can have an effect on your cover. An unlocked door or an open window with no break-in evidence can sink an otherwise valid claim. Everyday habits matter too: here are parking habits that can quietly void your claim.

5. You were under-insured

Your contents and buildings must be insured for their full replacement value, which is what it would cost to replace everything new today. Insure for less and King Price pays proportionately, so a R500,000 claim on contents insured at half their true value pays out far less than you expect. Under-insurance is a scam you might be pulling on yourself, so use the King Price inventory form to work out accurate replacement values and review them yearly.

The thread running through all five is simple: cover only works when you hold up your side of the policy. Report on time, pay your premium, keep your tracker live, lock up properly, and insure for full value. Do that, and King Price has every reason to pay.

Pros and cons of King Price’s claims approach

Pros

  • High volume settled monthly with published figures
  • Fast typical turnaround, including same-day windscreens
  • Multiple ways to log a claim, including WhatsApp
  • Strong independent track record with the NFO

Cons

  • King Price decides the settlement method, not you
  • Strict 30-day reporting window
  • Theft and hijacking cover depends on tracker compliance where required

Checklist: before you log a claim

  • Report within 30 days, even for “just in case” incidents
  • Call 0860 50 50 50 before any tow
  • Get a police case number for accidents, theft or any crime
  • List every item lost, stolen or damaged
  • Keep proof of ownership and value for specified items
  • Check your premium is paid and your cover is active
  • Do not dispose of damaged items before the claim is settled

Real world example

Picture a Gauteng client whose windscreen cracks on the N1 after a stone chip on a Monday morning. They WhatsApp 0860 50 50 50, the claim is logged and assessed, and the replacement is arranged the same day. They could just as easily log that windscreen claim on the King Price app in a couple of taps. That single claim is one of the 1,776 windscreens settled in the monthly figures above, and one slice of the R10 million-a-day total.

How much does King Price pay out in claims?

King Price pays an average of around R10 million in claims a day. In one recent month it settled 5,395 claims, according to its June 2026 figures. Monthly payouts ranged from R118,289,346 to R148,018,982 between November 2025 and April 2026.

What are the most common reasons King Price rejects a claim?

The five most common are late reporting (after 30 days), an unpaid premium for the period of the incident, a tracker that was not installed or working on a theft or hijacking claim, no visible forced entry on a home break-in, and under-insurance. Every one is avoidable by meeting your policy conditions.

What do I pay when I claim?

You pay the excess shown on your policy schedule, which is your agreed contribution towards the claim. Additional excesses may apply depending on your cover, and you cover fuel and running costs on any hired car. The rest of a valid claim is settled by King Price.

Do I have to call before my car is towed?

Yes. Call 0860 50 50 50 before your car or motorbike is towed. If you use a random tow truck instead, you may be personally liable for the towing and storage costs.

What if I disagree with a claim decision?

Use King Price’s internal complaints process first. If it is not resolved, escalate to the National Financial Ombud (NFO), a free and impartial service. King Price has a 4% overturn ratio with the NFO, getting claims right 96% of the time.
