A word from the king

Our blog… Blah blah blah

Spring is the season for dings, scrapes, and silly accidents

Spring in South Africa means longer days, more road trips, and jam-packed weekends with sports events, outdoor markets, weddings, and braais. It’s also the season of public holidays and pre-festive-season shopping. In other words… More time on the road. More cars in parking lots. More opportunities for little accidents.

Really, it’s not surprising that there could be little spikes in the frequency of annoying car scratches and dents.

So, let’s talk about why now is the best time to check if you’ve got scratch and dent cover, and what it actually does for you.

Spring is the season of small claims

It’s not just you. Our claims data shows a seasonal increase in small damage claims between September and December. We’ve broken it down to a few reasons and were curious about how some of these were tied to spring.

We’re used to talking about how spring is a good time to review your policy and clear out the cobwebs in your admin… But who knew spring could also be the time for heightened risk of dings and dents.

Basically, this time of year sees more people on the roads, visiting family or attending events. The parking areas are fuller, increasing the chance of door bumps and trolley incidents. We’d also say that kids are around more during the holidays, out on their bikes, horsing around and kicking balls near parked cars.

This is also the time of year when people start prepping for year-end holidays, resulting in a few busier bodies out there. And busier bods are prone to a few more of those little ‘oepsies’, where you misjudge a driveway pillar.

What scratch and dent insurance does

Think of this as the cover that keeps your car looking good, even when life gets messy.

Basically, when a scratch or dent dares ruin your car’s appearance, you can use our royal app to send us pics, or you can send them via WhatsApp. We’ll review and authorise repairs, and then it’s done. Your car will be fixed up and back with you in gleaming condition.

It’s quick, easy, and far less admin than a full-blown insurance claim.

So, here’s what you’re covered for:

  • Minor scratches and paintwork touch-ups.
  • Dents smaller than a certain size.
  • Stone chips on your bodywork.
  • Minor bumper scuffs.

What this cover doesn’t include

The king’s scratch and dent insurance is for cosmetic repairs. So, it won’t apply if say, the damage is major or affects the structure of your car. Or if the dent or scratch is too large, or the damage was caused by a bigger accident or a third party.

That said, it works beautifully alongside your comprehensive policy, and it helps keep your car’s resale value up. If you’re wanting to sell your car in the future, this extra cover can help you get top dollar.

Don’t let small damage become a big headache

If you’re planning a getaway, ferrying kids to sports matches, or just trying to survive the spring parking-lot madness… This is the extra layer of protection that gives you peace of mind. We’d say that it’s really for anyone with a car, but maybe a touch more ideal for daily drivers, families with busy school runs, and anyone who parks out in public.

Scratch and dent cover starts from just a few Rand a month and saves you hundreds in out-of-pocket repairs later.
